Vault jumps into NU's class

All it took was a weekend visit to make Solomon Vault a Wildcat.

Just days after returning from his three-day unofficial visit to Evanston, the three-star athlete from Gaithersburg (Md.) announced on Twitter this morning that he had committed to Northwestern.

"Blessed to be able to say that i am COMMITTED to #Northwestern University!!!! #NU," he tweeted.

Vault is one of those small (5-foot-9, 190-pounds), fast (4.47 40) players that could play a variety of positions for the Wildcats. He is a running back at Gaithersburg, but Northwestern recruited him as a slot wide receiver. Other programs were interested in him as a running back or cornerback.

Vault rang up 188 carries for more than 1,200 yards and 22 touchdowns last season for Gaithersburg. His is also a talented track athlete for the Trojans, posting a personal best of around 11.0 seconds at 100 meters and 6.95 seconds at 55 meters.

Vault chose Northwestern over a double-digit offer list that included BCS schools Minnesota, Nebraska, Pittsburgh, Purdue and Tennessee.

The fifth member of the Wildcats' Class of 2014, Vault is the third recruit to make a verbal commitment to head coach Pat Fitzgerald this month.
