Malin Jones suspended

EVANSTON-Redshirt freshman superback Malin Jones is suspended indefinitely for violation of team policy and will miss the remainder of the 2013 season, Pat Fitzgerald said Wednesday.

"Out of respect to his privacy, I'll leave it at that," Fitzgerald said.

Jones, though, could very well return to the team in the spring.

"I would fully anticipate that," Fitzgerald said.

Jones did not play in Saturday's game against Michigan and did not participate in practice this week.

The 6-foot, 205-pounder from Joliet (Ill.) Catholic has suffered his fair share of turbulence this season. Despite high hopes for one of the gems of Northwestern's 2012 class, Jones was left buried on the running back depth chart and ran the ball just three times for negative yardage this season.

Jones was switched to the superback position during the season but remained a backup and was most often employed as an upback in Northwestern's "diamond," three-back alignment.

Wednesday has not been a great day for the Northwestern football program, as WildcatReport broke the news earlier today of Northwestern dropping four-star commitment Dareian Watkins from the Class of 2014.
