Crawford, Sobolewski named captains

EVANSTON-Fifth-year senior Drew Crawford and junior Dave Sobolewski have been selected the Northwestern men's basketball team's captains for the 2013-14 season as voted upon by members of the squad.
"Drew and Dave are veterans who have displayed a great deal of leadership throughout their careers," Northwestern head coach Chris Collins said. "They have earned the trust and respect of their teammates through their work ethic and their attitude both on and off the court. We look forward to their continued efforts this season as we strive to achieve our goals."

Crawford has appeared in 111 career contests, making 110 starts. The Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2009-10, he earned third-team All-Big Ten recognition as a junior in 2011-12 when he averaged 16.1 points per game. Crawford saw action in the first 10 games of the season a year ago before undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery. His 1,418 career points rank 10th in school history. The Naperville, Ill., native earned second-team Academic All-America recognition as a junior.
Sobolewski has started all 65 games through his first two seasons as a Wildcat. In 2011-12, he earned a selection to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team after averaging 8.3 points per game and led all nation's freshmen with a 2.63 assist-to-turnover ratio while playing 35.2 minutes per contest. He averaged 9.8 points and 4.0 assists per game last season and earned Academic All-Big Ten recognition.
Northwestern is hosting an open scrimmage from 3:15-4:15 p.m. at Welsh-Ryan Arena this Saturday, Oct. 5 prior to the football team's game vs. Ohio State at 7 p.m. The event will feature a scrimmage by the Wildcats, contests with NU players and fans as well as the opportunity to hear from Coach Collins.
