Northwestern landed transfer A.J. Turner from Boston College, a 6-foot-7 forward who will sit out next season but will have two years of eligibility left.
Turner, currently a sophomore at BC, announced his decision on Twitter.
Turner averaged 8.4 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 30.8 minutes per game for the Eagles in 2016-17. He scored in double figures four times, with a career-high-tying 15 points against Penn State in December. He earned significant playing time as a true freshman in 2015-16 as well, contributing 5.8 points and 3.6 rebounds in 27.5 minutes per game.
Turner was the No. 125 recruit in the nation in 2015, a three-star talent who was listed as a 6-foot-5 shooting guard, two inches shorter than he is now. He began his career at Warren (Mich.) De La Salle before transferring to prep school New Hampton (N.H.) as a senior.
At New Hampton, Turner was named All-NEPSAC as a senior after averaging 15 points, six rebounds and four assists per game. The NEPSAC is the prestigious New England prep school league that produced current Wildcats Aaron Falzon and Rapolas Ivanauskas. He chose Boston College over offers from Michigan State, Stanford, Wake Forest, Iowa State and others.
As a non-graduate transfer, Turner will sit out the 2017-18 season per NCAA rules.
The addition of Turner and 2017 signee Anthony Gaines gives Northwestern 12 of their allotted 13 scholarship players. The Wildcats could add one more 2017 signee or a graduate transfer for next season.
