Northwestern lands its running back

Northwestern got the running back it was looking for when Isaiah Bowser committed to the Wildcats on Friday. And it didn’t exactly come as a surprise.

The Wildcats offered the standout athlete from Sidney (Ohio) on Tuesday. Later that same day, he tweeted, “I have decided to skip my top 6 and make my decision this Friday at 4pm!”

That tweet tipped Bowser’s hand. But his tweet on Friday laid his cards on the table:

Landing a running back was imperative for Northwestern in 2018 as it failed to land one in its 2017 class.

Bowser, a 6-foot, 204-pounder, impressed Northwestern coaches at a one-day camp earlier this month. He posted a 4.5 40-yard dash, a 10-foot, 6-inch broad jump, and a 4.07 short shuttle at the camp. He also posted the best rating for a linebacker at The Opening camp in April.

Bowser is listed as a safety by Rivals, but he will play running back for Northwestern. He is also expected to contribute on special teams, and if running back doesn’t work out, outside linebacker or even superback is a possibility for the versatile athlete.

The unranked Bowser chose Northwestern over offers from Buffalo, Cincinnati, Indiana State, Miami (Ohio), Ohio and Western Michigan. He is the 15th member of the Wildcats’ class, which is currently ranked 21st in the country by Rivals.
