It’s unusual for Northwestern to offer a committed prospect. But Chris Steele is an unusual talent in an unusual situation.
The four-star 2019 cornerback from California powerhouse St. John Bosco committed to UCLA in January but is openly looking at other programs. He is a promising enough prospect to draw offers from Alabama, LSU, Stanford and Northwestern in the last few days, despite his verbal pledge to the Bruins.
Steele is upfront about his status and says that UCLA is well aware that he is still active in his recruiting process and plans to visit other schools. He just wants to make sure that Westwood is the best place for him.
“I’m still committed to UCLA,” he explained, “but I have two years left (before I sign in 2019). I’m looking at other schools just to make sure.”
