One way or another, a streak is going to end on Saturday as Northwestern looks to snap its three-game losing streak against a team its beaten twice in a row.

The Wildcats travel to East Lansing to take on No. 19 Michigan State. They beat the Spartans in triple-overtime last season in Evanston, and 54-40 in a wild shootout at Spartan Stadium in 2016. While the two programs have split the last eight games against each other, Northwestern comes in on a bit of a roll, having won three of the last four, including the last two on the road.

We went to Paul Konyndyk, associate editor of SpartanMag.com, to get the inside scoop on Michigan State and find out what the Wildcats can expect on Saturday.


Q. It’s strange to see the Spartans struggle to run the ball this year, ranking 13th in the Big Ten (though still one spot ahead of Northwestern). How much of that is due to the loss of LJ Scott and how much is the offensive line or other factors?
