McGowan picks Northwestern

About one month ago, three-star athlete Kyric McGowan took Northwestern off of his favorites list. About two weeks ago, he put the school back in his Top 4. Last weekend, he finally visited Evanston to take a look at what the program had to offer.

And today he officially became a Wildcat.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder from Dalton (Ga.) announced his commitment on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon:

McGowan is the 18th member of the Wildcats’ Class of 2017, which is currently ranked 19th in the nation by Rivals. He chose Northwestern over finalists Duke, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt.

Listed as a running back by Rivals, McGowan was recruited as a slot wide receiver for the Wildcats.

McGowan visited Northwestern on Saturday for a beach barbecue and told WildcatReport that his entire experience was just about perfect – save for a five-hour delay getting out of O’Hare Airport due to severe storms.

“My first impression of the campus was 'WOW',” said McGowan via Twitter direct message a day after his visit. “It's a very beautiful place. I really had a great time. On a scale 1-10, it was a solid 10.”

He said hanging out with players and prospects – there were more than a dozen Class of 2017 commits there, as well as some 2018 and 2019 targets – was the highlight of his time on campus.

“I feel as if the players there and the ones that are committed stand out most. They are really who I could see myself being around every day,” he said.

McGowan had already visited Duke, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt, so when he returned to Georgia, he needed only three days to make up his mind.

McGowan is the third wide receiver in Northwestern’s class, joining Berkeley Holman and Jace James.
