In the fall of 2014, Johnathan Berghorst, then a three-star sophomore defensive end from Zeeland (Mich.) East, visited Northwestern three different times to watch the Wildcats play. He loved everything about the program, but the Wildcats never offered him a scholarship and he wound up at Central Michigan.

But Johnathan’s little brother accompanied him on those trips to Evanston and he was just as smitten with Northwestern as his brother. Now 6-foot-7 and 245 pounds, Adam Berghorst is not so little any longer.

The three-star Class of 2017 defensive end last week picked up the offer from the Wildcats that his brother didn’t, and now Northwestern is in the thick of things for a player who has already attracted offers from 14 schools.
