College coaches like landing quarterbacks early in a recruiting process. There are a couple reasons for that.

For one, most programs take just one quarterback in each class so signal callers tend to make their commitments early, making landing one promptly all the more important. Plus, a big-name quarterback is usually the type of player that can attract other recruits to join him; land one early and other commits may follow.

So, after missing on Ty Evans, who committed to Arkansas earlier this summer, Northwestern is keeping an eye on unranked QB Johnathan Bennett as a potential 2019 target.

NU offensive coordinator Mick McCall went down to Summerville (S.C.) in May to check out the athletic 6-foot-1, 206-pounder, and Bennett returned the favor and visited Northwestern in late July.

WildcatReport talked to Bennett about his interest in the Wildcats and his recruiting picture in this premium story.
