Northwestern landed its first commitment for its Class of 2017 when three-star linebacker Blake Gallagher pledged the Wildcats on Monday.

The 6-foot, 220-pounder from Needham (Mass.) St. Sebastians Country Day announced his decision on Twitter:

Gallagher, the second-ranked player in Massachusetts, chose Northwestern over Power Five offers from Boston College, Duke, Maryland, Nebraska, North Carolina, Pittsburgh and Virginia. He picked up his offer from Northwestern in May and visited in June.

Gallagher's recruiter is superbacks coach Bob Heffner.
