Northwestern and Maryland will meet for the first time ever on Saturday in College Park, Md. But the two schools have bumped heads occasionally in recruiting through the years, though not as often as you might think.
For example, there are three Wildcats on the current roster from the state of Maryland: injured returner/wide receiver Solomon Vault from Gaithersburg, and cornerback Alonzo Mayo and wide receiver Jelani Roberts from Baltimore Gilman. Surprisingly, none of them received an offer from the home state school.
However, Northwestern East Coast recruiter Bob Heffner has battled Maryland for five prospects over the last few years and came away with three of them. WildcatReport takes a look at those players who picked Northwestern over Maryland, as well as the couple big ones who got away and became Terrapins.
