Every week we begin this Recruit Roundup intent on using another 2018 commitment as our lead feature. But every week tailback Isaiah Bowser puts up ridiculous numbers that prevent us from doing it.

Bowser, who topped 300 yards in each of his two previous outings, ran for over 400 yards and scored six touchdowns for the Sidney (Ohio) Yellow Jackets in a 55-48 win over Xenia (Ohio) last week.

Bowser entered the game leading the Great Western Ohio Conference in rushing with 830 yards. He now has a comic-book like 1,264 yards after just four games.

Sidney has not had a playoff appearance in Bowser's lifetime (the last was in 1989). The Yellow Jackets have just four league titles since 1937 and went 4-6 last season. As such, excitement is at a fever pitch.

“Everybody is hyped,” Bowser said. “Coming into the season people weren’t sure we could get it done. But we’ve won the first four games and we’re rolling right now.”

Sidney’s resurgence, of course, is fueled by Bowser. He carried the ball a whopping 43 times for 434 yards against Xenia to eclipse 300 yards for the third straight week. To show that he is more than just a runner, Bowser also completed two halfback passes for 90 yards and another touchdown.

According to the Ohio high school football site fantastic50.net, Sidney had a 97-percent chance of making the playoffs with a win over Xenia. The site lists the Yellow Jackets as favorites in each of their final six games, which includes all five GWOC North tilts.

The 4-0 Yellow Jackets face Piqua next.

Here's a look at how all of Northwestern's 2017 commits fared last weekend as they head into their Friday and Saturday games:

Wide receiver Jacob Jefferson looked every bit like a future Big Ten football player in Houston (Tex.) St. Pius X’s romp last weekend.

The three-star prospect caught 14 passes for 215 yards and four touchdowns as the Panthers rolled to a 58-41 win against an overwhelmed College Station squad.

The College Station defense took a beating in the first half. It was 31-7 at the break. Even a second half rally didn't bring them within shouting distance of making a game of it.

St. Pius X quarterback Grant Gunnell, a Texas A&M pledge playing in front of his future college town’s home crowd, was named the "Built Ford Tough" player of the week for area private schools for his performance. Overall, he completed 41-of-61 passes for 494 yards and six touchdowns. He also rushed for 54 yards.

St. Pius X junior wide receiver Jalen Curry also acquitted himself well, with one touchdown reception on 135 yards receiving.

The effects of the flooding in the area have made it a slow start for the season. The Panthers are only 2-0, with one game cancelled and another changed from one opponent to another.

Next week, St. Pius X finally gets their first home game of the season, playing Houston (Tex.) Chavez.

Future superback Charlie Mangieri and the Dunlap (Ill.) Eagles saw their best performance in a season full of them thus far as they destroyed East Peoria 47-0.

The Eagles scored 14 points the first quarter. Then they tacked on another 26 in the second quarter and coasted the rest of the way.

Mangieri, Isaac Guyton and Ryan Erickson all scored twice in the first half in a different way. Mangieri recovered a fumble in the end zone on a botched punt for the first score of the game and later threw a 4-yard TD pass.

Mangieri pulls double duty as a middle linebacker as well as a tight end. The Dunlap offense stirred it up in the second quarter with touchdowns on three consecutive plays from scrimmage.

Mangieri later got his TD pass to Andrew Pogue to give Dunlap four touchdowns in five plays.

It’s been 24 years since Dunlap had a start like this, dating back to the Eagles’ days outside a conference.

“I think that’s a tribute to the Mid-Illini (conference),” head coach Cazalet said. “We’ve had a good program but have had a tough schedule to start the conference season and usually play a tough non-conference schedule.”

Now 4-0, with two conference wins under their belts, the Eagles will host Morton.

Defensive end Devon O'Rourke and Frankfort (Ill.) Lincoln-Way East jumped out to a 22-0 first quarter lead and cruised from there. Their opponent, Orland Park (Ill.) Sandburg, is the former high school of NU head coach Pat Fitzgerald. In an odd coincidence, former NU quarterback Zak Kustok attended L-W East before transferring to Sandburg.

Sandburg could have used either alumnus on the field as the No. 1 L-W East Griffins seemed to score at will. They hung 29 points on Sandburg in the first half. Aside from a second quarter Sandburg touchdown, L-W East was in visible control along the way to a 46-7 win.

The biggest name on the box score was Kwaku Appiah. Appiah delivered a 32-yard touchdown catch and returned an interception 33 yards for a TD. "I was excited to get to play offense again," Appiah said. "It's just up to the coaches, whatever they need me to do. I'm a team guy. I just want to go out and make plays wherever they put me."

"We saw the emergence of Kwaku on both sides of the ball," L-W East head coach Rob Zvonar said. "We knew he could be a big playmaker. Hopefully this game gives him confidence on both sides of the ball and that adds another weapon for us."

Special teams also contributed as Mason Keenan returned a punt 66 yards for a touchdown for the Griffins in the first quarter.

The Griffins are now 4-0 (2-0 in conference). Next on their list: rival New Lenox Lincoln-Way Central.

Quarterback Jason Whittaker's finally had a breakout game for Rockford (Mich.).

The Rams were ahead by only 7-6 in the first quarter, but promptly found their stride, rolling over the Caledonia Fighting Scots 51-13.

Whittaker completed 15-of-20 passes for 246 yards to help the Rams. Rockford's offense came in ready to rumble, picking up 28 points in the first half. Whittaker hit Jake McLean six times for 108 yards, while Chase Novak had four receptions for 57 and Jake Richardson three for 63.

Khale Showers and Ian Rodriguez led the defense with 13 and 10 tackles, respectively.

Rockford evens their record to 2-2. They begin conference play against Grand Haven (Mich.) next.

Safety Jeremiah McDonald had five solo tackles and assisted on eight more in a 34-12 win for Slidell (La.) Northshore in a cross-border showdown with Biloxi (Miss.). McDonald also knocked down a pass and recovered a fumble.

Northshore held a 17-0 lead at the half, but three second-half touchdown tosses by Biloxi quarterback Kamron Suddeth helped the Indians get back in the game. Suddeth connected with Jervin Smith for a touchdown toss with 6:22 remaining to cut the Northshore lead to 27-21 with 6:22 remaining.

Biloxi had a successful onside kick on the ensuing kickoff, but Northshore came up with a sack to force a Biloxi punt. A rushing touchdown put Northshore up 34-21 with 2:57 remaining, putting the game to rest.

Slidell Northshore is now up to No. 6 in the St. Tammany Parish power rankings. They stand at 2-1 because the victory against Pearl River to open the season in a "jamboree" game does not count towards the official standings.

They'll be going to Covington (La.) St. Paul's to open conference play this weekend.

Future defensive end Andrew Leota was credited with a big play by his head coach after a 33-6 win for Asheville (N.C.) over Erwin.

David Burnette said, "Three [players each] made a big play. We had a big run by Andrew Leota, big run by (Dana) Campbell. Trevon Robinson had some big catches. If you want to be a good team, you can't rely on one guy."

Big plays like those allowed the Cougars to overcome 155 penalty yards and multiple special teams gaffes. Now they are sitting atop the Western Mountain 3-A Conference standings.

"Everybody on this team has that clutch factor in them," said Asheville running back Corey Clement, who finished with 61 yards on 15 carries. "So everybody wants to be that guy. But it's a team sport. So no matter who gets the ball, he's going to get the first down or the touchdown or whatever we need."

The Cougars are now 2-3 after a two-game winning streak. They're also 2-0 in conference and hope to add to that as they play Enka next.

Linebacker Khalid Jones had three tackles and assisted on four more as his Duncan (S.C.) Byrnes team roared to a 34-0 win over Spartanburg Broome.

It was a chance at revenge for a loss to Broome last year. Byrnes turned three short fields, one brought on by an interception, into quick points in the second quarter.

“The kids talked about it,” Byrnes coach Reggie Shaw said about last season’s 34-28 loss. “It’s not hard to motivate these kids after last year. Every week they are ready to come out and play and prove themselves. This one was big.”

Byrnes quarterback Brock Carroll, who was 12-for-24 for 160 yards, connected twice with Zy Young for touchdowns (16 and 27 yards). Running backs Quez Mayes and Rahjai Harris combined for 136 rushing yards, with Mayes scoring on a 27-yard run.

Although Byrnes is now at 5-0, those are all non-conference wins. First, they'll enjoy a bye-week, then they'll get a game in conference at home against the Spartanburg Vikings on September 29.

Inside linebacker Grayson Mann was credited with two tackles, two assists, and one pass defended for Fort Worth (Tex.) All Saints in a 43-15 win over Fort Worth Nolan Catholic.

All Saints has a bevy of future college players, including Oklahoma commit Jaylon Robinson, who recorded four receptions for 33 yards.

Standing at 3-0, All Saints’ next game is another private school match against Midland (Tex.) Christian. Looming large in the future, however, is a meeting with Jefferson’s Houston St. Pius X a month from now.

Offensive lineman Wyatt Blake and the Crystal Lake (Ill.) Central Tigers were able to avoid a late challenge against the McHenry Warriors to earn a 38-30 victory.

Warriors coach Nat Zunkel had words of praise for Blake and his linemates. “[Central’s] defensive line and offensive line dominated the game, and that was the difference,” Zunkel said.

“I feel like our defensive line had prepared all week really well,” defensive lineman Cade Keenan said. “We were able to get pressure in the first half. Our linebackers also did a really good job of filling their gaps when [McHenry] did that option.”

The Tigers had three sacks in the first half alone. Central led in the fourth quarter, 38-13, with 3:58 left on the clock before McHenry’s late rally.

The CL Central Tigers, now 3-1 (2-1 in the Fox Valley conference), are up against Hampshire on Friday night.

Offensive tackle Charlie Schmidt's Libertyville (Ill.) Wildcats got off to a quick start and coasted to a 41-14 win over conference rival Waukegan.

Libertyville wide receiver Brendan Gallagher caught a 43-yard touchdown pass on the third play from scrimmage last Saturday, one of three TDs the senior scored.

"It was really important to get out like that, and having a big play just got us going," Gallagher said. "(Quarterback Alex Stanulis) threw me a good ball and all went well."

"That was awesome," Gallagher said. "Our offense was clicking."

Libertyville (2-2, 1-1 in conference) will be at home against Lake Forest (Ill.) on Friday.

Future offensive tackle Payne He'bert took a setback as his Pearland (Tex.) Dawson Eagles lost to Houston Summer Creek 33-14.

The Summer Creek Bulldogs used two turnovers that led to touchdowns to take control. Dawson fell behind 10-0 at halftime and couldn't get its offense on track in the loss. Summer Creek scored 21 third-quarter points in opening a 31-8 lead.

The Eagles look to move back to the winning side of the ledger when they play Pasadena Dobie next.

Future linebacker Jaylen Rivers and Loganville (Ga.) Grayson had last weekend off. Their 3-0 record will be challenged against Hollywood (Fla.) International School of Broward on Friday night.

Safety Greg Newsome and Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy did not play at Baltimore (Md.) St. Francis Academy on September 8 was cancelled due to Hurricane Irma. The Ascenders’ scheduled game against Washington (D.C.) St. John's Academy met a similar fate last weekend.

IMG Academy was the No. 1 program in the nation and remains atop the USA TODAY computer-based ranking system. IMG is preparing to face another national top 10 team in Miami Central. Miami Central has had hurricane problems of their own, getting stranded in Nevada after a win over national No. 14 Las Vegas Bishop Gorman.

Tight end Brian Kaiser was still being held out of action, but his Winnetka (Ill.) New Trier Trevians got a late field goal in a 10-7 win over Hoffman Estates Conant.

At 2-2 overall, NT will begin their conference slate against Skokie Niles West. Kaiser is “expected to return” for that game.
