Texas tackle is second 2018 commit for Northwestern

Northwestern landed a quarterback with its first 2018 commitment. Now the Wildcats got a tackle to help protect him.

Tackle Payne He'bert from Pearland (Texas) Dawson announced his commitment to the Wildcats on Friday morning to join quarterback Jason Whittaker in the Class of 2018:

A 6-foot-4, 260-pounder, He'bert received an offer from Northwestern on Nov. 1 of last year, calling it "a dream come true."

The two-star ranked tackle chose the Wildcats over reported offers from Kansas State, Fresno State and Texas State. He also received recruiting interest from the likes of Texas, LSU, Texas A&M, Houston, Oklahoma State, Purdue, Vanderbilt, Colorado, SMU and Rice.

He'bert, who hails from the Houston area, was recruited by linebackers coach Randy Bates, who covers that recruiting hotbed for the Wildcats. Northwestern had six players from the Houston area on the roster in 2016.
