Cats land 3-star WR Jacob Gill

Just a couple weeks ago, three-star wide receiver Jacob Gill told WildcatReport that he got a "great feeling" when he received an offer from Northwestern.

Gill wasn't kidding. That feeling was strong enough to lead him to commit to the Wildcats on Wednesday without ever setting foot in Evanston.

The Raleigh (N.C.) Cardinal Gibbons announced his decision on Twitter to become the 14th member of Northwestern's class.

Gibbons chose Northwestern over nine other offers, most notably Louisville, North Carolina State and Wake Forest from the Power Five.

A 6-foot-1, 170-pounder, Gibbons started receiving offers after his sophomore year at Cardinal Gibbons, when he broke out with 74 catches for 1,170 yards to get college coach's attention. Last season, he caught 64 passes for 794 yards and nine TDs to help lead Gibbons to the 4A state championship game.

In all, Gill collected just under 2,000 yards and 27 touchdowns over the last two seasons.

Gill said that his strengths as a wide receiver are his route running and hands. He also was involved in the return game for the Crusaders and plans to do so at Northwestern.

Gill is the second wide receiver Northwestern has landed for 2021, joining Donnie Gray of Deerfield (Mass.) Academy.

The Wildcats' class is currently ranked 34th in the country by Rivals.
