Bryant McIntosh has been the leader of Northwestern's rise to prominence over the last three years. On Sunday, the Wildcats landed the player they see as his replacement.

Three-star point guard Jordan Lathon, the No. 128 player in the nation, committed to Northwestern on Sunday. The 6-foot-4 standout from Grandview (Mo.) announced his decision on Twitter:

Lathon just returned from an official visit to Northwestern last Tuesday through Thursday. While he was impressed by the campus and the renovations underway at Welsh-Ryan Arena, he said that the people at Northwestern caused him to choose the Wildcats over 10 other offers, including a final group of Butler, Illinois, Iowa State and Wake Forest.

"It was the coaching staff, the players and all the people around the program," said Lathon. "They are really like a family."

Lathon took an official visit to Iowa State immediately preceding his trip to Evanston. He was also planning to take one to Illinois, but those plans have been scrapped in light of his commitment.

Northwestern offered Lathon in May, shortly after seeing him during the early evaluation period in April. Wildcat head coach Chris Collins talked about making Lathon the leader of the offense as the lead guard from Day 1, and the fact that those words came from Collins gave them particular resonance to Lathon.

"Knowing Coach Collins and his background and his experience (is what makes the offer special)," he told WildcatReport after receiving the offer. "He’s been around basketball his whole life and he’s really turning that program around after making their first (NCAA) tournament this year."

Lathon is Northwestern's first Class of 2018 commitment.
