Bryce Gallager’s commitment to Northwestern on Sunday shouldn’t have come as much as a surprise. Neither should the fact that he became the first member of the Wildcats’ Class of 2019.

After all, the three-star linebacker from Needham (Mass.) St. Sebastian’s Country Day is the younger brother of Northwestern freshman linebacker Blake Gallagher, and Bryce readily admits that becoming a Wildcat has been in the back of his mind since head coach Pat Fitzgerald offered him a scholarship in June.

As for the timing, consider that just about 22 months ago Blake committed to Northwestern to become – you guessed it – the first member of the Wildcats’ Class of 2017. So Bryce followed in his older brother’s footsteps in more ways than one.

You have to say this about the Gallaghers: they make up their minds early.

Now Bryce is waiting for the day when he and Blake can line up next to each other as Northwestern linebackers.
