Northwestern saved one of the best for last.

Cornerback Greg Newsome, the last scholarship signee announced by Northwestern on Wednesday, comes from two schools. IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., was where he played this season. Before that, he was at Carol Stream (Ill.) Glenbard North, the alma mater of NU wide receiver Jace James and a running back by the name of Justin Jackson. You might have heard of him.

Newsome enjoyed his experience at IMG, a star-studded program that played all over the country this season and went undefeated. What he enjoyed the most was that teams challenged him as a corner again, both in practice against some of the best players in the nation, and in games against some the best programs in the nation. He said that after he led the state in interceptions as a sophomore at Glenbard North, opponents wouldn't throw to his side his junior year.

After a semester in Florida, Newsome is back home in Chicago and ready start classes at Northwestern in January as an early enrollee.

Get to know the kid they call "GNews".

What does signing day mean to you? Signing day is a symbol marking my hard-work paying off not only with my athletic abilities but also academic.

No. 1 reason you chose Northwestern: The question is, why wouldn’t I choose Northwestern? It has everything and some to offer.

Three words that describe head coach Pat Fitzgerald: Genuine, accountable, persistent

Potential major: Economics

Career goal: I plan on being an Economist, along with starting my own family

Favorite movie: Ride Along

Favorite music artist: Lonzo Ball (does he sing?)

Funniest guy in the class of 2018: Willy Boatman

Role model as a player: Richard Sherman

Highlight of your high school career: Led the state of Illinois with 7 interceptions my sophomore year.

One unique thing about you that very few people know: I can sing. (Better than Lonzo Ball?)
