Northwestern hosts Top 50 forward Pete Nance

Last week, Northwestern hosted official visitor Jordan Lathon. The Rivals150 point guard committed to the Wildcats on Sunday, three days after returning from Evanston.

Northwestern would love to repeat that process this week with Pete Nance.

Nance, a four-star, 6-foot-8 forward from Akron (Ohio) Revere, will arrive on Tuesday and be on campus until Thursday. He is ranked as the No. 39 prospect in the country and would give the Wildcats a versatile, athletic big man who has deep range on his jumper and figures to be a dangerous pick-and-pop option in college.

The son of former NBA player Larry Nance and brother of current Los Angeles Laker Larry Nance Jr., Nance has had the Wildcats in his top three for quite some time.

“They are on the rise and it’s an exciting place to be right now,” he told Rivals’ Eric Bossi earlier this month. “I love coach (Chris) Collins and all of the assistants.”

But to land him, the Wildcats will have to beat out two Big Ten competitors: Ohio State and Michigan.

Things seem to be breaking Northwestern’s way in the race for the skilled playmaker with NBA bloodlines. Ohio State just underwent a coaching change and is playing catch-up with new boss Chris Holtmann. Michigan, which Nance is scheduled to visit next, figures to be a formidable foe, but Northwestern just stole assistant coach Billy Donlan away from the Wolverines.

Now the Wildcats are going after Nance.

Four-star point guard Ayo Dosunmu, the No. 29 player in the nation, was originally supposed to accompany Nance as an unofficial visitor on Tuesday. But Lathon’s commitment means that Northwestern is no longer pursuing the Chicago point guard.
