Northwestern lands 2018 big man

Northwestern landed its big man on Wednesday when 2018 center Ryan Young committed to the Wildcats.

The 6-foot-10, 210-pounder from Bethlehem (Pa.) Catholic announced his verbal commitment on Twitter.

Young chose Northwestern over offers from Maryland, Temple, St. Joseph’s and others. His finalists were Northwestern and Maryland, and he took official visits to both schools back-to-back in recent days.

Young had a host of mid-major and Ivy League offers before his popularity soared during the AAU season. He plays for the Jersey Shore Warriors AAU squad.

According to MaxPreps, Young averaged 13.9 points and 12.5 rebounds per game during his junior season at Bethlehem Catholic. He also added 1.5 blocks and 1.1 steals per game.

Young is the third member of Northwestern’s Class of 2018, joining four-star point guard Jordan Lathon and four-star forward Pete Nance.

The Wildcats have one scholarship left for the class, which ranked 16th in the latest Rivals team rankings.
