Northwestern lands 4-star Kopp for final 2018 slot

Northwestern put a bow on its Class of 2018 with Miller Kopp.

The four-star, Rivals100 wing from Houston committed to the Wildcats on Thursday to become the fourth and last member of the class. He announced his decision on Twitter:

Kopp took an official visit to Northwestern last weekend and decided to end his recruiting process four days after returning from Evanston.

A 6-foot-7, 215-pounder from Houston Christian and the Houston Dynamo AAU club, Kopp chose Northwestern from among a Top 6 that also included Butler, Georgetown, Michigan, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt. He took official visits to Butler and Texas A&M before visiting Northwestern.

Northwestern has focused its attention on Kopp for its last scholarship since mid-summer and put on a full-court press over the last several days. The whole coaching staff traveled to Houston for an in-home visit on Sept. 10, and then Kopp returned the favor by taking his first trip to Evanston.

Kopp rated his Wildcat official visit a 9 on a scale of 1-10, and that was enough to seal the deal. He said that he was impressed by the campus, coaches and players, as well as the commitment the university is making to the basketball program. The athletic department is currently rehabbing Welsh-Ryan Arena and the team's practice facilities.

Kopp also got a chance on his visit to deepen his bond with fellow four-star 2018 commits Jordan Lathon and Pete Nance. Lathon, a 6-foot-4 point guard, and Nance, a 6-foot08 forward, took unofficial visits last weekend to help show Kopp around campus and sell him on the program.

Northwestern head coach Chris Collins sees Kopp replacing shooting guard Scottie Lindsey after Lindsey graduates next season.

Kopp is the third Rivals150 player in NU's class, joining Lathon (ranked 118th) and Nance (61st). Big man Ryan Young, who has yet to be ranked by Rivals, is the Wildcats' other commitment.

Northwestern's 2018 class was ranked 22nd in the country by Rivals before Kopp's commitment.
