Northwestern legacy Kaiser makes it official

Some things just seem destined to be. So it was with Brian Kaiser’s commitment to Northwestern.

The three-star superback from Winnetka (Ill.) New Trier who has deep ties to the Wildcat program "finally" committed on Friday morning to become the fifth member of the Class of 2018. He also undoubtedly made his father very happy.

Kaiser announced his decision on Twitter:

Kaiser’s commitment seemed like a foregone conclusion when he was offered by Northwestern in December. His father, Steve, played for NU in the 1980s, he’s been going to Wildcat games for as long as he can remember, and he and his mother cried tears of joy when head coach Pat Fitzgerald extended the offer at a bowl practice in December.

But Kaiser took his time and checked out other programs before pulling the trigger. The 6-foot-7, 210-pounder collected 10 offers, from several Ivy League and MAC schools, as well as a big one from Duke that just came in on Tuesday.

But in the end, he wound up with the program he’s been around his entire life. He even committed in person, making the short drive to Evanston to give Fitzgerald his verbal at 7 a.m.

Kaiser, the 16th-ranked prospect in the state, is the second superback in Northwestern’s class. He joins another well-connected fellow Illinoisan, Charlie Mangieri, whose two uncles, Ed and Danny Sutter, played for the Wildcats.

Kaiser took an overnight visit to Evanston last weekend.
