Lawrenceburg linebacker Mason Parris is a top ten ranked football prospect in the state of Indiana’s 2018 class, but it is not certain he will play the sport in college. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound prospect goes into his senior year with high-major Division I opportunities in two sports.

THE LATEST

A 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker prospect, Parris is a two-time state champion who was ranked as the No. 3 high school wrestling prospect at 220 pounds by InterMat coming out of his junior season. At this stage of his high school career, Parris said he is leaning toward wrestling over playing football in college, though the possibility of playing both still exists. He has already scheduled five wrestling official visits to N.C. State (Sept. 9), Michigan (Sept. 16), Nebraska (Sept. 23), Virginia Tech (Sept. 30) and Northwestern (Oct. 7). Parris plans to make his college selection soon after his official visits are complete.

IN HIS WORDS

“I am still trying to decide between which (sport) to do. Most (schools) would say it is a possibility to do (both sports) if I wanted to.”

RIVALS’ REACTION

Parris’ offer list for football features double-digit schools, but his wrestling offer list is even more extensive. Illinois and Indiana are the only two Power Five programs which have currently offered him scholarships in both football and wrestling, but based on his official visit plans it does not appear those schools are likely destinations. Parris has ideal size for the linebacker position, is a devastating tackler and shows good athleticism and speed, but as highly-ranked as he is in football, he is an even higher-ranked wrestling prospect and that is his preferred sport right now.
